COB-ROASTED PIMA CORN KERNELS
Oh! The subtly sweet flavor of roasted corn! Huun Ga’i Can be used as a side dish or as an ingredient in soups or stews. Long ago, Huun Ga’i was a staple food of our people, the Akimel O’odham. Today, the elders in our community remember with nostalgia those days gone by when most families had their own plot of corn and worked together to hand-harvest and roast the ears over mesquite coals. The unforgettable sweet fire-roasted flavor of Huun Ga’i has made it one of the most sought-after traditional treats of our people. This delicious and wholesome dish has become a favorite at family gatherings, social events and ceremonies.
Basic Cooking Instructions:
4 cups of water to one cup of Ramona Farms Huun Ga'i (roasted corn) (4 to 1 ratio)
Place water and Ramona Farms Huun Ga'i (roasted corn in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes and remove from heat.
