I am excited to share the food traditions of my tribe, the Akimel O'Odham (Gila River Pima) Community. My people have lived and farmed in this desert region for centuries. I am happy to be able to invite you to try the foods from my farm and from my tradition.

Ramona’s American Indian Foods, LLC is a Native American (Akimel O’Odham) business. I have been farming land here in Sacaton, Arizona for over forty years with my husband Terry and am pleased to bring you my traditional food products.

The tepary bean has been handed down for countless generations amongst my Akimel O’Odham (River People, Pima) people and our cousins the Tohono O’Odham (Desert People). The bavi is high in soluble fiber and protein and is a low glycemic index food.

The “Ramona Farms” line of food products includes Wheat Berries, Wheat Pinoles, Wheat Flour, Corn Pinole, Cornmeal, Corn Flour, Corn Grits, Cornmeal, Corn Polenta,  Garbanzo Beans as well as Black, Brown and White Tepary Beans. The products are grown, harvested, processed, packaged and shipped to you from right here on our farm in Sacaton, Arizona.  Be sure to visit us at www.ramonafarms.com.

Our Community

We are located in Sacaton, Arizona. A Community on the Gila River reservation in Arizona – the population of this reservation of about 584 square miles is about 15000 people.

Life here is still very traditional in many ways and slower paced than the communities off the reservation. The traditions of our people have survived and are being passed on to our children – our language is taught in the schools today and traditional dance and basket weaving have become popular again.

We have a few small stores – no grocery stores as off the reservation, and several churches. We have schools here and our children can either attend these schools or can attend school off the reservation in the cities of Casa Grande, Coolidge and Chandler which are about 30 minutes away. We have a tribal government, our own telecommunications company and several casinos as well as a tribal farm, a race track, a large hotel and spa, a hospital and an electrical utility company.

We are blessed to be a small closely knit community.
